Bring a laptop to this hands-on workshop that highlights how teachers can use the online deliberation platform Common Ground for Action (CGA) to incorporate civics and critical thinking in the classroom. CGA is a simple but sophisticated platform for convening deliberative dialogues online, creating a structured way for students to have tough conversations civilly, to more deeply explore their own judgment on an issue and to better understand the judgment of others with different views on topics like bullying, inequality, climate change, immigration, politics, and school funding. Grade 6-12 teachers from all disciplines – foreign languages, science, English, social studies/history, and life skills will see CGA in action and learn best practices, acquire materials like assignments and grading rubrics, and resources to convene CGA forums in their classrooms.
